A seriously ill cave explorer was rescued from a depth

The American researcher who participated in the cave rescues himself started vomiting blood deep in the bowels of the mountain.

American speleologist Mark Dickey have managed to save in an operation that lasted three days.

Dickey was with his group of speleologists exploring the Morca cave inside the Taurus Mountains in the south of Turkey, when he fell seriously ill about a kilometer deep. For an as yet unknown reason, Dickey began violently vomiting blood.

Because Dickey was in a very awkward place, he could not be brought to the open air right away. The cave, which is the third largest in Turkey, contains, among other things, vertical gorges.

The first time Dickey received treatment was on September 3, when a Hungarian doctor had landed at his location. Also Dickey’s fiancé Jessica Van Ord was with him for some time, he says British Broadcasting Corporation BBC. Dickey received intravenous nutrition.

In the end, up to 190 people from Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Turkey participated in Dickey’s rescue. He was carried on a stretcher and temporary camps had been set up along the way. Some of the passages were so tight that they had to be expanded by blasting.

Dickey was lifted out of the cave by a crane built on the site on Tuesday afternoon.

The purpose of the research team was to map the cave and look for another exit.

Dickey is an experienced cave explorer and has also participated in rescue operations for cave climbers who have gotten into trouble.
