An aid ship is ready to leave Larnaca in Cyprus with Gaza as its destination. The ship is the second to travel in the established humanitarian sea corridor to the Gaza Strip, according to Cyprus’ foreign minister.

The first ship, belonging to the aid organization Open Arms, left on Tuesday to see if it is possible to reach and anchor off the coast of Gaza.

Emergency aid to the approximately 2.4 million inhabitants of Gaza is transported both by trucks and by air transport where supplies are dropped on the Gaza Strip. The UN and aid organizations do not believe that aid by sea can replace land transport, despite the extensive difficulties faced by aid shipments transported by land.

Open Arms’ Spanish ship brings about 200 tons of grain and rice. The journey to Gaza can take up to two days.
