a season of cheating and scandals

KOH LANTA 2021. This was to be the biggest season in Koh Lanta’s history, it ended up being marred by several cheating cases. Return to Koh Lanta La Légende.

[Mis à jour le 21 décembre 2021 à 20h30] To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the first broadcast of Koh Lanta, TF1 is broadcasting a special evening on Tuesday. We will find there some of the most remarkable adventurers of the various seasons of the adventure game. All will speak about the different facets of this popular program: survival, strategies, trials, sometimes romantic encounters that can take place … Enough to reflect on the exceptional longevity of Koh Lanta in a less tense atmosphere that during the final of Koh Lanta: The Legend, a season which was marked by many inglorious affairs for the image of the program.

Tuesday, December 14, 2021, TF1 broadcast the final of Koh Lanta: The Legend. This was to decide between Ugo, Laurent and Claude, all three qualified to compete for the € 100,000 check promised to the winner. After a pole test won by Laurent, Ugo was eliminated and Claude drafted. Claude Dartois and Laurent Maistret were thus to be decided by the 13 members of the final jury but, in a surprise announcement (previously fanned by the press) Denis Brogniart announced that the count would not take place because breaches of Koh Lanta’s code of honor had been observed during the season and that this therefore did not respect the principle of fairness between the candidates. The vote, which would have crowned Claude winner (9 votes against 4 for Laurent) was thus invalidated. The check for € 100,000 was donated to the Bertrand-Kamal Fund, carried by the ARC foundation for cancer research.

In a statement shared on social networks, the production company ALP reacted to this eventful Koh Lanta final: “The conditions for survival were certainly spartan, but in line with the level and the hardiness of the adventurers who were not. not at their first experience in such conditions. We are very disappointed that some adventurers have chosen, voluntarily, to break the rules of Koh-Lanta which they know perfectly but also to break the trust that we had shown them by selecting them for this anniversary edition. ” The production has, however, confirmed that the next season of Koh Lanta will be well broadcast next year.

This decision follows a long season which, despite superb performances from many of the contestants, took a rather unpleasant turn during the broadcast of episode 11 with the revelation that Teheiura had cheated then, upstream of the broadcast of the final, other revelations specifying that other candidates (a group of 4 or 5 other candidates of which only the names of Laurent and Claude are circulating) had also cheated on a regular basis. We go into these cases in detail later in this article.

Koh Lanta La Légende has gradually transformed into “Koh Lanta: La Cheating”. The “All Stars” season 2021, filmed at the beginning of the year in French Polynesia on the motus facing the island of Tahaa, will have accumulated revelations relating to cheating occurring on the sidelines of the shooting. Teheiura will be the first candidate excluded from the game. Asked by the production a few weeks before the end of the adventure, he will assume facing the camera that he has received food twice. The Parisian already specified, on the sidelines of the broadcast of episode 11 of Koh Lanta: The Legend, that Teheiura had shared this food (vegetables as well as a steak and fries) with Claude and Sam. Monday, December 6 then on Tuesday, December 14, the day of the Koh Lanta final, the Ile-de-France newspaper will publish new revelations of cheating, this time citing Laurent Maistret as well.

According to one of the articles published by The Parisian, “four to five candidates” took advantage of the evenings of advice to make trips to the inhabitant on the island of Raiatea. There, they waited for the guards in charge of monitoring them to fall asleep “to join the Sunset Beach Motel”. The newspaper will reveal that these candidates, initially anonymous, were then received by residents. “On the menu: salty, sweet and energy drinks galore. A ritual, every three days, for most of the five candidates.”

After the revelations of the press, the production of Koh Lanta decided to open an investigation into the cheating which it had not yet heard of before. Le Parisien explains in particular that visual proof would have been consulted by Adventure Line Production: a photograph which would show Laurent Maistret at a table filled with a lot of food, in the company of Claude Dartois and two other candidates who will remain unnamed. This photograph would have been initially taken by the couple who would have hosted these clandestine meals, then sent by SMS to Laurent Maistret himself.

The revelations about Koh Lanta: The Legend won’t stop there. In a new article published on December 14, a few hours before the broadcast of the Koh Lanta 2021 final, The Parisian unveiled new information explaining that Claude and Laurent would have threatened the production to strike or even quit the adventure if they did not get pastries in addition to the food obtained for the whole team, after a test of comfort. Behind the scenes, the blackmail of Claude and Laurent would have paid off, the production having yielded to their demands according to Le Parisien.
