Fans of the series are therefore logically wondering if they will soon be able to discover a season 3 for I promise you on the first channel in France. For the time being, TF1 has made no announcement on this subject, no doubt focusing on the audiences generated by this second season since the end of January. We know that with an average of around 3 million viewers watching episodes of I promise you, this second season shows a certain decline compared to the first season (around 4 million viewers on average during its broadcast in 2021 ). In terms of market share, the episodes of season 2 of I promise you are maintained between 14 and 17%. If the writers of the series are already working on a sequel, TF1 has not yet formalized the start of construction of I promise you season 3. It will therefore be necessary to be patient and wait for the sound of the bell front page to get to the bottom of it.

I promise you is a choral series featuring several characters facing different life and societal issues. In the leading quintet, we find Hugo Becker in the role of Paul, actor crossed in the Baron Noir and Chefs series, opposite Camille Lou (Le Bazar de la Charité) who plays his wife Florence. Guillaume Labe, actor seen in Plan coeur on Netflix, plays Michaël, while Maud is played by Marilou Berry (Vilaine, Joséphine…). Fans of American series will notice this as soon as they read the synopsis: I promise you is a French adaptation of the hit series This is us. Created in 2016, this soap opera is a critical and popular success. Each year, the series This is us is nominated during the ceremonies which reward the best of television across the Atlantic. She was notably cited for the award for best drama series at the 2016 Golden Globes and actor Sterling K. Brown, who plays Randall, the character from which Mathis is inspired in French, received the Emmy Award and the Golden Globe for best actor in a drama series, while the other actors in the series have been nominated several times. This is us is currently airing in the United States, featuring six seasons. In France, it is Canal++ which offers unreleased This is us in streaming. The series is also broadcast on 6ter and M6.
Yes I promise you follows several storylines similar to the plot of This is us, there are still some differences between the American series and its French sister. The American plot takes place in Pittsburgh, while the French remake takes place in La Rochelle, making Paul a craftsman specializing in boats. Unlike the original, two actresses play Florence at two different ages in her life in I promise you : Camille Lou in the 1980s and Nathalie Roussel today. In the American version, Florence/Rebecca is played by the same actress, Mandy Moore, who is made up to look aged.
Another difference between I promise you and This is us : Michaël is a footballer in the French version. In This is us, its counterpart, Kevin, is a sitcom actor who converted to Broadway: the anchoring was too American to work in the French version. At last, I promise you focused on the story of Mathis’ origins, in particular addressing the history of decolonization and immigration, which is not done in the American version. According to the critics, these differences and this French historical and cultural anchoring are all the salt of this adaptation, which relies on a totally hexagonal soundtrack, from Johnny Hallyday to Alain Souchon.
I promise you is a series broadcast on TF1 since February 1, 2021. From this date, the channel broadcasts two episodes every Monday evening, until March 8, 2021, the end of the first season. The second season has been available on TF1 since January 31, 2022. If you missed an episode, don’t panic: they are available the day after their replay broadcast on the MyTF1 site.
If you missed season 1 of I promise you, know that it is not too late to see it again in streaming. These are available on the Salto and Canal+ subscription platforms. Season 2 is also being released gradually on these two platforms. I promise you currently contains two seasons, the first broadcast in 2021, the second in 2022. We do not yet know if the French adaptation of This is us will be entitled to a third season or not: if the matter exists (the original American series is currently airing its sixth and final burst of episodes). For the moment, nothing has been formalized as to a potential sequel.
Before its launch on TF1 in 2021 (the series was already available in full on the streaming platform somersault), I promise you garnered mostly positive reviews. However, the announcement of this French remake of This is us made fans cringe. For Allocinated : TF1 “holds in its hands a potential future success with I promise you which stands out, with Les Bracelets rouges, as one of the most successful transpositions proposed by the front page in recent years.” The media specializing in film and television news welcomes an adaptation “very faithful to the series original”, but which stands out by providing a French historical and cultural context. “If it is perhaps a little less moving, this very well-written adaptation, which is based on chiseled dialogues, is therefore much funnier, and it is again a very good point.” The Obs admits it, “it is wrong to oppose […] the scenario has the intelligence to anchor itself resolutely in its territory by summoning our common memory”. Same observation on the side of the Figaro who believes “after the misses of the genre (like Make kids), it’s the spicy comedy that the PAF was waiting for.
