An investigation was opened by the public prosecutor for “death threats” after the words of a 13-year-old girl against her history and geography teacher, showing Charlie Hebdo caricatures.
According to information from The Republican Eastin a college in the country of Montbéliard (Doubs), a history and geography teacher was threatened with death for showing three caricatures from Charlie Hebdo, as part of a civic education course. The facts date back to January 8, the day after the 10th anniversary of the killings in the premises of the satirical newspaper. The same day, in this 4th grade class, a 13-year-old student protested, saying that “it’s not okay to show caricatures.” It was only a few days later, on January 16, that the situation degenerated.
This same schoolgirl then approaches the teacher in question, telling him that another high school student was going to “come and kill him”, for having shown the work of Charlie Hebdo. Comments also made to a friend who attended the course. The professor decides to pass the information on to his superiors, who files a complaint with the public prosecutor.in Montbéliard, Paul-Édouard Lallois. “Proceedings were immediately opened for death threats and I asked that the student be questioned very quickly in police custody,” said the latter.

Summoned by the principal of the school, the teenager justifies her misbehavior and her threat towards her teacher as a “bad joke”, learns from her side BFMTV. According to the newspaper L’Est Republican, she mentioned it as a “joke”, adding that she had “not threatened him directly”. She was temporarily excluded from her college pending the holding of a disciplinary council.
The next day, the young girl and her mother were summoned by the public prosecutor. The first cited was placed in police custody, as requested by the prosecutor, for “death threats against a person responsible for a public service mission”. During her hearing, she disputed any intention of threatening her teacher.
The public prosecutor believes that “the threat was well constituted” against the professor. Still according to information from the local newspaper, the teenager will be summoned before the prosecutor’s delegate in mid-February for a probative criminal warning, with a clear consequence: “this young lady will be on file”, indicates the prosecutor in the columns of L’Est republican . If the warning is confirmed, it will be entered into his criminal record.“The goal is to make these young college students responsible for the impact of their comments,” he adds at BFMTV.
