Making a statement on the subject, Ear Nose and Throat Diseases Specialist Operator Dr. Hakan Tuhan said, “An 8-month-old baby was consulted to us from Güroymak district of Bitlis. As a result of the x-ray taken in Güroymak district, we confirmed that the safety pin was at the entrance of the trachea. As a result of the interventions, we removed the safety pin. After removal, we kept our patient under observation for about two hours. “We did not encounter any complications afterwards and we were discharged without any problems,” he said.
Tuhan, who also gave information to families who encounter such problems in his statements, said, “In ENT practice, we very often encounter foreign objects in the ear, nose and throat. Children can put paper and coins, especially beads, and granular foods such as chickpeas, beans, and pieces of corn, into their ears, noses, or swallow them. Such situations can be life-threatening. Families need to be a little more careful about this issue because it carries the risk of leakage into the trachea. Such suspicious substances should be kept out of reach of children. “When faced with such a situation, we recommend that families do not attempt any intervention and consult the nearest health institution.” (UAV)
