A fire has broken out at the gas company Novatek’s natural gas terminal on the coast of the Gulf of Finland in Russia, said the governor of the Leningrad region early on Sunday.
The terminal located in Laukaansuu is about 110 kilometers from St. Petersburg, close to the Estonian border.
Novatek, which operates the terminal, is Russia’s largest independent natural gas producer.
Terminal personnel were evacuated, said the governor Aleksandr Drozdenko messaging service in Telegram. According to the governor, no one died in the port fire. He also shared a short video on Telegram showing a large fire and smoke.

According to the governor, the Russian Ministry of Emergencies and local rescue authorities are involved in extinguishing the fire.
According to the Russian state news agency Tassi and other state media, the cause of the fire has not been announced.
