A right-wing radical student made the content of the course

A radical right-wing student made content on social media about a course at Karlstad University that dealt with “race and whiteness in Sweden”. Just over half of the students have dropped out of the course, and teacher Tobias Hübinette is now on sick leave.

The 21-year-old Christian Peterson signed up as a student for the course “Internet culture: Race and whiteness in Sweden” at Karlstad University in order to review the course’s content, he says himself.

Peterson has made a name for himself within the extreme right in Sweden and is said to have roots in the Nazi resistance movement, according to DN.

The teacher responsible for the course, Tobias Hübinette, and several students are said to have felt uncomfortable with Peterson and with how the content he spread on social media would be received. A student speaks up DN that he was afraid of being filmed and that it would spread, because Peterson moves in a far-right environment.

“After me in private life”

Just over half of the students dropped out of the course and the teacher took a break from teaching.

– I find it very difficult to have such a student on my course and also after me in my private life, says the teacher Tobias Hübinette, who is on sick leave from his job.

Hübinette says he was also harassed outside of work hours, and requested a restraining order against Peterson this summer, which was later denied.

Going forward, the course at Karlstad University will only be held as a reading course.

Peterson says he wants to review

According to Christian Peterson, his intention was to review the content of the course and the teacher Tobias Hübinette, whom Peterson calls a “left-wing extremist”.

– I think that if you have to question something, it’s that he (the teacher) calls in sick just because he gets a critical student, says Peterson to TV4 Nyheterna.
