It is estimated that there are about 80 individuals of the species left. They live in one national park.
Naturalists have discovered that a Javan rhinoceros living in Indonesia has given birth to a cub. This information is a source of great joy for conservationists, as the Javan rhinoceros is an extremely endangered animal species.
Javan rhinos live in the wild in the Ujung Kulon National Park in the western corner of the island of Java. It is estimated that there are only 82 individuals of the species left, so even one surviving chick is precious for the preservation of the species.
The cub, estimated to be three to five months old, was captured by one of the national park’s 126 game cameras.
Javan rhinoceros used to live in thousands across Southeast Asia, but its population has collapsed as a result of poaching, deforestation and other human activities.
The main task of the national park rangers and naturalists is to protect animals, especially from poachers.
