a revision of the electoral lists announced for January

In Gabon, the Minister of the Interior, Hermann Immongault announced on Saturday December 28 the launch of an electoral review operation from January 2 to 31. The operation aims to prepare for the general elections (presidential, legislative and local) which will put an end to the transition begun in the aftermath of the coup d’état of August 31, 2023.

The revision of the electoral lists of Gabon primarily concerns young people who have just turned 18 and those who wish to change voting center. It must also make it possible to remove deceased people and those who have lost their civil rights. Prisoners in pre-trial detention will also be counted, to enable them to vote.

One hundred and fifty-eight commissions will be responsible for registrations in the country compared to 23 for Gabonese abroad.

The announcement of this revision came the day after the very first meeting between the President of the Transition Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and Alain Claude Bilie By Nze, last Prime Minister of Ali Bongo.

The latter pleads for a complete overhaul of the electoral register.

Resetting this list from scratch would give the impression that the military wants to carve out its own list. », Estimates Ange Kevin Nzighou, leader of the Party For Change.

The Gabonese Democratic Party, driven from power by the military, says it supports this new revision of the electoral register since it is a classic operation provided for by law.
