Air pollution is “unhealthy for sensitive groups” (orange) in the northern areas of Tehran, and “unhealthy for all groups” (red) in the southern areas. Parks and gardens, which are among the social centers of the city, were left empty due to the alarming air pollution. It was seen that the citizens who went out wore masks, taking into account the warnings of the authorities.
It is noteworthy that the density of Cumhuri Street, where electronic devices are sold, exchange offices are located and which is generally crowded, has decreased significantly.
There was no expected decrease in vehicle traffic. Despite the authorities’ warning not to go out to traffic unless necessary, and Tehran Municipality’s statement that entry tickets will not be sold to areas where vehicle entry is restricted, drivers did not leave the streets empty.
Milad Tower, one of the symbols of the city, also took on a blurry silhouette due to intense air pollution.
SCHOOLS HOLIDAY UNTIL TUESDAY
Schools in Tehran and Elburz states were closed last week due to high levels of air pollution, and classes were held online. In the statement made yesterday, it was announced that the schools were closed until the evening of Tuesday.
In addition to its location that is not suitable for air circulation and population density, the exhaust gases of old model vehicles and commonly used motorcycles are among the factors that increase air pollution in Tehran.
