8.6 million tickets have been sold for the Paris Olympics, breaking the ticket sales record held by the Atlanta Olympics.
So far, 8.6 million tickets have been sold for the Paris Olympics, the organizers said on Thursday. It’s a new ticket sales record.
– The record was held by the Atlanta 1996 Olympics with 8.3 million tickets, and we surpassed that number some time ago, said the head of the Paris Olympic Organizing Committee Tony Estanguet for news agency AFP.
According to Estanguet, tickets are still very much available for many different sports as well as for the opening and closing ceremonies.
– We are proud that we have already broken the record, but we can still improve, Estanguet continued.
The competition organizers believe that 10 million tickets will be sold for the Olympics and 3.4 million for the Paralympics. According to the organizers, more than one million tickets have been sold to the Paralympics so far.
The Paris Olympics will take place from 26 July to 11 August. The Paralympics will be held in Paris from August 28 to September 8.
