a record incidence rate new measures announced on Monday

COVID. This Sunday, December 26, the coronavirus broke a new record in France, that of the incidence rate. It is now 712.25 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Faced with this epidemic tidal wave, the government could announce new restrictive measures at the end of the health defense council on Monday, at 4 p.m.

  • The latest figures for the coronavirus in France, communicated by Public Health France, have been unveiled. No new contamination record this Sunday, December 26, but all the same 27,697 additional cases, or 20,776 less than last Sunday. A number which can certainly be explained by the lower number of tests carried out on Boxing Day. In, when we look more at the incidence rate, we observe that it has taken 64.39 points more than the day before and is now at 712.25 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
  • To cope with the progression of Covid-19 in France and its variant Omicron, a new Health Defense Council is being organized this Monday, December 27 at 4 p.m. New restrictions may well be announced. In the process, an extraordinary council of ministers will be held to examine the bill which must, among other things, transform the health pass into a vaccination pass.
  • During this new health defense council, the question of a curfew on the evening of December 31 could well be asked. The government does not exclude this possibility to slow the progression of the Covid in France. But for Dominique Costagliola, epidemiologist, that would not be a good measure: “It is not with a one-day curfew that we will control the epidemic. So, I think that this measure there, it would be a display measure, but it will not have a particular role in the dynamics of the epidemic, “he told France Inter.

10:27 – “It is not because we do not have a risk factor that we are not at risk” warns Dominique Costagliol

Guest of the morning of France Inter this Monday, December 27, epidemiologist Dominique Costagliola wished to recall a few facts: “43% of people who were hospitalized with the Covid during the first wave were under 50 years old and no risk factor during. We must not say to ourselves that we have no risk if we do not have a risk factor. And that is something that people forget “

Since mid-October 2020, Public Health France has been communicating incidence data (number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants) at the municipal level. The figures are at this stage communicated according to a scale (10, 20, 50, 150, 250, 500, 1000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants). The data are expressed on a rolling week, which means that they are calculated on a day D from the tests carried out between 3 and 9 days previously. As a reminder, the incidence rate corresponds to the number of new cases of Covid-19 over a period of one week, compared to the total population of a territory (country, region, department or municipality). This indicator is generally expressed in number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The screening rate gives the number of people who have tested for the coronavirus out of the total number of inhabitants, during the period. It is also expressed most often on 100,000 inhabitants. Finally, the test positivity rate gives the percentage of positive tests for the coronavirus, compared to the total number of tests carried out over the period.
