A record has already been broken

After Disney released the most successful film of the year worldwide in the summer with the Pixar hit Inside Out 2, the mouse company’s next phenomenon is in the starting blocks, which should make the cash registers ring no less.

We’re talking about Moana 2which is intended to continue the adventures of the eponymous heroine, which thrilled animation fans young and old in 2016. The sequel with Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson has definitely already broken a record.

“Moanapocalypse”: Fantasy sequel Moana 2 breaks advance sales records

As the Hollywood Reporter reports, official pre-sales for Moana 2 began in the USA on October 28, 2024. Already on the first day sold more tickets than any other animated film in 2024. This meant that Moana 2 was able to overshadow even Inside Out 2.

Even outside of animated entertainment, the film came in fourth place after Deadpool & Wolverine, Wicked and Dune: Part Two. Cinema operators in the USA made a joke of the matter and called the incident based on the original English title of the film – Moana 2 “Moanapocalypse”.

And that’s what it’s all about: Moana 2 once again revolves around the eponymous heroine (Cravalho), who lives on the Polynesian island of Motonui. In the first part, she had to convince the self-absorbed demigod Maui (Johnson) to return a stolen artifact and thus restore peace. A surprising friendship emerged.

In the sequel, Moana comes into contact with her ancestors three years later and wants to bring her people and the sea into harmony. They once again find themselves on the high seas to search for a mysterious island together with Maui and an unusual sailing crew a devastating curse must be broken.
