A record 27 straight losses – are the Detroit Pistons the weakest team in NBA history? | Sport

A record 27 straight losses are the Detroit Pistons

The NBA basketball club Detroit Pistons broke records when they lost to the Brooklyn Nets 112–118 at home early Wednesday Finnish time.

The result extended the Pistons’ losing streak to no less than 27 games, which is a new NBA record in one season. The Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010-2011 and the Philadelphia 76ers in 2013-2014 have lost 26 times in a row in one season.

The longest losing streak of all time in the NBA is Philadelphia’s 28-game losing streak that began in the 2014-2015 season and continued in 2015-2016.

Detroit started their season with a loss, but won their next two games. Since then there have been only losses.

A coach acquired in the summer with a contract of almost 100 million dollars and six years Monty Williams took responsibility for the poor performances after the record defeat.

– When you look at statistics and records, you think of coaches. I’m sure the players don’t want this associated with them, Williams said.

– This has been difficult for some time. That’s the way it is, and it doesn’t change by assessing the loss streak. We have to do the required things to change the situation.

Pistons fans, disappointed by the miserable start to the season, have demanded that the club be sold. Cries demanding to sell were also heard on Tuesday in Detroit’s home hall.

– I think shouting sales demands was a bit too much. We are growing all the time, even though many expected us to have a better start to the season. We’re going to keep playing and forget what other people say, Pistons Jaden Ivey said.

Top to bottom

At the beginning of the 2000s, the Pistons were still one of the top clubs in the NBA. It has won three championships, the most recent of which came 20 years ago in the 2003-2004 season.

Now the Detroit team is the sports media of The Athletic by James L. Edwards by on their way to becoming the weakest NBA team of all time.

At this rate, the Pistons’ regular season record could show six wins and 76 losses. The bottom quote is Charlotte’s 7-59 from the 2011-2012 season.

Detroit reached the NBA Finals in the spring of 2005 after its last championship, and then missed the conference finals three times, when the team’s GM Joe Dumars decided to trade a member of his tough starting five Chauncey Billups to Denver.

Arrived in exchange for Detroit for the 2008–2009 season Allen Iverson spent only one season with the club, and the team missed the first round of the playoffs.

Since then, the Pistons have only made the playoffs twice, falling in the first round both times.

Bad luck

After difficult years, the team was able to grab Cade Cunningham, the first reservation for 2021, who has, however, suffered from injuries. Last season, he was able to play only 12 games and had to undergo surgery for a stress fracture in his leg.

In 2022-2023, without Cunningham for most of the season, the Pistons won just 17 games, the worst performance of the NBA season.

However, the sticky season provided the best opportunities for the phenomenal French promise By Victor Wenbanyama for booking. The San Antonio Spurs still took the longest pick in the reservation lottery, and Detroit only got to pick fifth.

Detroit has recruited a lot of young and promising players, such as Cunningham (22 years old), Jaden Ivey (21), Jalen Duren’s (20) and Ausar Thompson’s (20).

However, the young players haven’t been able to play much with each other yet due to injuries, and the pressure of an inexperienced team to win is increasing all the time.

During the fall, for example, Dure and one of the team’s few strongmen and reliable scorers have been injured Bojan Bogdanovic.

In the Brooklyn match, Detroit’s star player Cunningham scored a whopping 41 points, grabbed nine rebounds and made five assists, but the handsome performance was still not enough for the victory.

– This burden has largely been given to me, on the field and in the dressing room. Every day I try to lead our group, but I have not succeeded. It is only right that I speak about it in public, Cunningham said.

– We have to rely on each other, push each other forward and demand responsibility from everyone, now more than ever, he said.
