A really strong horror classic with an extremely shocking finale

At the latest with the bloody finale, Carrie – Des Satan’s youngest daughter has become a classic as a horror film. The Stephen King film adaptation by Brian De Palma is also one before that haunting story about the tragic consequences of domestic violence and bullyingthat slowly destroy the soul of a special girl.

In Carrie, psychic powers escalate into brutal horror

The plot revolves around the nice, but very scared and reserved Carrie, who is teased and excluded by her classmates because of her nature. In addition, there is her parental home with a single mother, who is also one tyrannical religious fanatic is. Then Carrie discovers that she has telekinetic abilities.

While the film is generally considered horror, it’s actually more of a drama for much of the time. De Palma mainly focuses on showing all the factors that weigh on and weigh on Carrie. The fact that the film doesn’t get boring, although the horror factor only comes into play in the last 15 minutes or so, is that playful staging of De Palma.

Close-ups, slow-motion, color games, chic tracking shots or even a fast-forwarded scene make the film stylistically very varied, which is by no means a matter of course for the year 1976, when it was released at the time. Some borrowings from works by Alfred Hitchcock are also very nice. In addition comes the great presentation from Carrie through Sissy Spacek, which makes you feel and feel very sorry for her.

At the latest in the last 15 minutes, the horror in Carrie erupts in terms of staging and atmosphere. That final carnage is in its consequence hauntingly shocking and the sad climax of Carrie’s tragic story.
