A rarely used level 1 spell is now a must for experienced players in Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 is known for giving players an incredible amount of freedom. With a little creativity you can easily overcome even the most difficult challenges. For example, a simple spell can lead to one of the best weapons in the game right from the start.

What kind of magic is this? If you want to gain an advantage early on, including using powerful weapons from nasty opponents, you can use the command spell at level 1. This has several variations: Flee, Lie Down, Come, Stop and Let Go.

The release version is exciting because the creature the spell is cast on must immediately drop whatever he or she is holding. This can be an item, another creature or a weapon.

For example, right at the beginning you can secure one of the most powerful weapons in the entire first act on the nautiloid. Fans are currently celebrating this on Reddit, among other places.

Steal the weapon from nasty enemies with the level 1 spell

What can the weapon do? The weapon you can secure in the first act is the Everburn Blade. It actually belongs to the NPC Commander Zhalk, a fiend with 150 hit points and an armor class of 18. You can meet him in the last room of the Nautiloid, where he is fighting a mind flayer.

Commander Zhalk is not an opponent that a squad of level 1 characters could easily beat. But if you use Let Go of Shadowheart, you can secure your sword. These are the stats:

  • Damage: 3 – 16 (2d6 slashing damage; 1d4 fire damage)
  • Feature: Everburning Weapon is permanently on fire
  • Weapon type: Two-handed sword, close combat
  • Requirement: Character can handle great swords or is proficient in using military weapons
  • With up to 16 damage, the sword is one of the strongest weapons available in act one – especially because it’s available before the end of the tutorial.

The effectiveness of Command: Let Go isn’t limited to the Everburn Blade. You can use the spell on any enemy or NPC. Or at least try.

How do you get the magic? Command: Let Go is a level 1 enchantment. Clerics and the Warlock subclass The Fiend get the spell at first level. Paladins can access it from level 2 onwards. Bards of the School of Knowledge gain command at level 6. All other bard subclasses can issue commands at level 10. Alternatively, you can choose the Novice Magician: Cleric talent.

If you want to play another class yourself and use Command right from the start, you can try recruiting Shadowheart on the Nautiloid. You can read exactly how you do this in our guide to recruiting all possible companions.

Baldur’s Gate 3 still excites players today as much as it did when it was released in 2023. But the game is still getting important updates – Patch 8 has already been announced. Finally, fans were happy because Larian Studios adapted an item that was actually useless.
