A racing pigeon that lost its way in England was found in the US state of Alabama after a 6,500-kilometer journey.
The 4-year-old pigeon named Bob was released into the air from Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands, to return home three weeks ago.
This 644-kilometer journey was expected to take 10 hours.
However, according to owner Alan Todd, the pigeon took a wrong turn on its way home in Tyneside, in the north of England, and landed on a ship and crossed the Atlantic Ocean.
“THAT CANNOT BE FLY THAT WAY”
“He couldn’t have flown all this way. He was covered in oil. He probably went in an oil tanker,” Todd said.
Bob was found in the backyard of a house in Mexia, Alabama. The owner of the house delivered Bob to an animal shelter. The shelter found Bob’s owner via social media.
Alan Todd said that his pigeon, which he saw on the internet the previous day, was well taken care of and that the bird gained weight.
It is stated that Bob’s value is a thousand pounds (about 20 thousand TL).
