According to JYP’s customer and development manager Taneli Maasalo, JYP will discuss the issue with the viewer this week. According to Maasalo, some kind of curfew is always an option.
A special situation was seen in the Ice Hockey Championship over the weekend, when a spectator in Jyväskylä threw a puck onto the ice Jukurien Juhamatti Aaltonen to get through.
Aaltonen’s eyes strayed to the puck thrown onto the field for a moment, but after that he had another attempted goal. A penalty shot was awarded for the situation, but Aaltonen did not manage to finish.
JYP tells Urheilu that they quickly located the person who threw the puck. He was also removed from the match immediately.
– Of course, it was quite a shocking situation for everyone. Juhamatti Aaltonen was alone through and then the puck flew onto the ice from the A1 corner. Everything was just like what happened, JYP’s customer and development manager Taneli Maasalo comment.
Maasalo praised the supervisor’s quick and exemplary reaction to the situation.
– The spectator in question was found immediately and his identity was taken from him and removed from the hall. On our behalf, the matter was taken care of in the end, but of course it was a very unpleasant situation, says Maasalo.
According to Maasalo, something similar has never happened before, at least in Jyväskylä’s hall, and there is therefore no precedent for the case. JYP will review the matter during the beginning of the week and discuss further measures with the person who threw the puck.
– It is absolutely not an acceptable activity, and something similar must not happen in the future. The judgment has severely failed the person in question. Surely some kind of sanction is being worked out, but that is between us.
Are you considering a curfew and is it possible?
– As I said, the matter has not been discussed yet. We will go through the matter in our head and after that we will be in contact with the person concerned, how to act. Of course, some kind of curfew is always an option. It’s not part of spectator behavior to throw anything into the rink, or at all.
– Fortunately, Jukurit didn’t make it the winning goal at least. It was a good thing, it would have been a pretty dull ending to the game.
Jukurie’s head coach who has played more than 1200 NHL games Olli Jokinen stated after the game in a press conference that he has never seen a similar situation.
– I myself have never seen anything like that before. We have both been involved in this hockey to some extent, and it was probably the first time for both of us when we saw such a situation, Jokinen described and referred to JYP’s head coach Jukka Rautakorpen.
– There is nothing to add to that either. It doesn’t matter how it goes. A strange thing all in all. Of course, that doesn’t belong now, Rautakorpi stated.
The stakes were high in the match, as JYP practically had to win the match to maintain their chances for the playoffs. Jukurit, who won 2–1 in the match’s winning goal race, is also fighting for a place in the playoffs along with HPK and KooKoo.
