A professional caster says he’s losing an important job after being unfairly banned from Twitch

24-year-old Brit Adrian “Jamada” Wharlton-Thorne (24) has a serious problem: he’s a professional caster for League of Legends, but he can’t do his job because Twitch has banned him and won’t tell him what for. He now misses the LoL European Cup, an important source of income.

Who is this?

  • Jamada has already worked as a coach in League of Legends, but currently earns his money as a caster, so he comments on games live.
  • He specializes in the Chinese league LPL and the EMEA area: Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
  • Actually, Jamada would cover the LoL tournament “EMEA Masters” in August and September, so to speak the “Champions League of European teams”, but there is a problem.
  • Would love to win the European Cup, Eintracht Spandau:

Twitch ban on your own channel prevents you from appearing at work

What is the problem? Jamada says (via reddit): He was hit with a 14-day ban for “hateful behavior” on his personal Twitch channel on August 10th.

This ban prohibits him from appearing on Twitch: So he can’t do his job as a caster at the LoL tournament.

For the first time in 3 years I might miss the group stage of a tournament that I’m a core member of and have a lot, a lot of passion for participating in. At the moment these are the only days I have been hired to work this month and from other personal messages I have received recently it would be incredibly difficult to lose that income.

Caster runs into a wall of silence on Twitch

What was he banned for? That’s the absurd thing: he doesn’t know. He was only told that he had been banned for “hateful behavior”. He doesn’t know the details.

An objection was rejected without comment.

He’s spent days trying to find anyone to contact on Twitch, but can’t get through to anyone: he just can’t get through.

Even the Reddit thread in LoL with over 8,300 upvotes and 190 comments had no consequences.

This is behind it: Twitch’s ban policy has long been viewed as opaque and arbitrary: streamers often cannot understand exactly what they were banned for.

This “hateful behavior” is the same reason why the German Twitch streamers Scurrows and Orangemorange were banned from Twitch for 2 weeks without giving any details. They have appealed against the ban and in fact Orangemorange can no longer be banned from Twitch in this way until 2026 (via Twitter).

Orangemorange won the lawsuit while Scurrows lost it.

Perhaps going to court would also be an option for the unfortunate and desperate caster. In any case, the LoL tournament has already started. Without him.
