A preliminary agreement was reached with the EU’s top washing machines – Italy’s Giorgia Meloni, who was passed over in the decisions, continued her review | Foreign countries

A preliminary agreement was reached with the EUs top washing

The EU leaders are supposed to appoint people to EU leadership positions at their summit starting on Thursday. The names have been agreed, but the transfer of the Italian Prime Minister is awaited.

The political leaders of the EU countries have reached an agreement on filling the EU’s high positions, many international media reported.

The decision on the management trio is to be made at the summit in Brussels starting on Thursday.

However, the prime minister of Italy was not among the decision-makers Giorgia Meloniwhich is why the summit’s final seal on the nominations is still a question mark.

According to the agreement, a German would continue as chairman of the commission Ursula von der Leyenthe former Prime Minister of Portugal is becoming President of the European Council António Costa and the Prime Minister of Estonia, who appointed the High Representative as the director responsible for EU external relations Kaja Kallas.

Of the trio, von der Leyen represents the center-right European People’s Party EPP, Costa is a social democrat and Kallas belongs to the Liberals’ Renew group. The people are also geographically from different parts of the EU.

The agreement includes, among other things Politico magazine the leaders representing the different political groups of the six countries who rubbed together: the EPP includes Poland’s Donald Tusk and Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakisof the Social Democrats of Germany Olaf Scholz of Spain Pedro Sánchez and the Liberals of France Emmanuel Macron and the Netherlands Mark Rutte.

According to Meloni, the EU does not listen to the will of the people

According to the official source, we can only trust that the negotiators have done their work so that Meloni has been discussed.

For Italy, the heavy portfolio of the commissioner and the badges of the vice-presidents of the commission have been on display.

However, Meloni still criticized the way the appointments were made in the Italian Parliament on Wednesday. According to him, the EU does not take into account the will of European voters.

Meloni described the EU as a “bureaucratic giant”.

Meloni was already upset at the previous leaders’ meeting on June 17 that he was not included in the decision on the leaders of the district.

He criticizes the fact that names were brought to the meeting table before there was even a discussion about what we want to do in the EU after the elections and who would best carry out the tasks.

Meloni emphasizes that the national conservative parliamentary group ECR, which he represents, has become the third largest over the Liberals.

The group’s number of seats was increased in the elections, especially by Meloni’s own Italian brothers party. Of the major countries, only Meloni achieved election victory, as in France Macron’s Renew and in Germany Scholz’s social democrats suffered a defeat.

Von der Leyen needs the support of Meloni’s mepps

The nomination package is now backed by the traditional grouping, which includes the parliament’s largest EPP and the second largest group, the Social Democrats and the Liberals. Meloni’s access to the negotiations has been hampered by the refusal of the Social Democrats and Liberals to cooperate with the ECR group, which they consider to be far-right.

No new names have been presented for the top teams since the meeting on the 17th. Among other things, due to the quick actions required by the war in Ukraine, the EU leaders would like the appointments to move forward quickly.

After the summit’s presentation, the parliament must approve the appointment of the president of the commission, which is not something von der Leyen has heard. He probably needs the support of Meloni’s party MEPs to get behind him the majority of the parliament, i.e. 361 MEPs.
