A popular HBO series is canceled, 49,000 fans want to prevent it

“Our Flag Means Death” was canceled after 2 seasons. But a fan petition wants to save the Pirate series. More than 49,000 people have already signed.

Our Flag Means Death is a comedy series in which the British aristocrat Stede Bonnet wants to roam the seas as a pirate and gets to know the infamous Captain Blackbeard.

The series debuted in March 2022 on HBO Max. In Germany you can watch the first season of Our Flags Mean Death on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, MagentaTV, maxdome or RTL+.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the series performs excellently with both critics and viewers:

  • 94% Tomatometer
  • 95% Audience Score
  • However, it’s now over after 2 seasons because Max canceled the series prematurely – even though there were already plans for Our Flags Mean Death to end in a 3rd season. You can read more about the end of the Pirate series here from our colleagues at Moviepilot.

But fans don’t want to stand idly by and watch the series end and have created a website with the motto “Renew as a Crew” and started a petition on change.org – in the hope of saving Our Flags Mean Death.

What are the fans demanding in the petition? The fan petition is aimed at HBO and is calling for the series to be renewed.

This is what the text of the petition says:

The news of the closure of Our Flag Means Death is very disappointing. Creator David Jenkins planned a three-season saga, and if the production team is committed to another journey, we are ready to support it. It’s time for us to dress up and prepare for battle!

There is little time left to reverse the decision of those responsible to cancel the series. That’s why they now want to fight for Our Flag Means Death “with sheer volume and love”.

However, it is also emphasized that everyone involved should remain positive and that threats to the petition would do more harm than good.

How is the petition going? So far she has collected a total of 49,242 votes. Today alone, 4,670 people have signed by the time the article was written (as of January 15, 2024). This means that the petition is close to reaching the next goal of 50,000 votes. It remains to be seen whether HBO will ultimately listen to the fans’ request or whether the series will perhaps be taken over by another network, as was the case with Lucifer.
