It was announced that the incident took place while Picazo was visiting his grandfather’s house in Papatlazolco. Meanwhile, rumors of Picazo abducting a child began to spread in WhatsApp groups, according to local media. Thereupon, Picazo and two people with him were attacked by an angry crowd.
THE POLICE ARE INSUFFICIENT
It was reported that the local police tried to intervene in the incident, but their numbers were insufficient, and Picazo was set on fire by pouring oil on it. Authorities were then able to retrieve Picazo’s body.
In a statement on the subject, the city administration said, “We condemn this incident and remind that crimes should be tried in accordance with the law.” The local government announced that an investigation was launched into the attack. But according to local media, no one has been detained yet.
“A YOUNG MAN WITH DREAMS”
Picazo was working as a consultant to the Mexican Parliament until March. MP Johanna Torress said Picazo was a “talented and hardworking young man, dedicated to his country and with big dreams for life”.
The National Action Party, one of the biggest parties in the Parliament, declared that they “wait for justice after this unfortunate event”. In Mexico, lynchings occur occasionally, especially in rural areas where police have been slow to respond. Picazo is the second person to be lynched in Puebla this year.
In 2019, seven people were beaten and burned alive in the same state.
