Playing Helldivers 2 on Steam now requires a PlayStation Network account.
Helldivers 2With a recent decision by PlayStation, Steam users are required to connect to a PlayStation Network account to play the game. This change will be valid as of today for new users and as of June 4 for existing users. Although PlayStation stated that this move was necessary due to technical problems, this decision attracted widespread reaction.
A PlayStation Account Will Be Required to Play Helldivers 2 on Steam
PlayStation stated that this mandate “plays a critical role in protecting our players and upholding the values of safety and security provided in PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games.” However, this requirement caused Helldivers 2’s reviews on Steam to be negatively affected. Many players left negative reviews, leading to the game receiving generally mixed reviews on the Steam platform.
As noted by Twitter user Wario64, Helldivers 2 is no longer available for purchase in many countries. The announcement of PlayStation’s decision to require PSN login caused the sale of the game on Steam to be stopped in these countries. In addition, players can request a refund from Steam, even if they have played for more than two hours. This means that millions of players globally will not be able to play the game, especially for those living in countries where PSN is not available.
Unless PlayStation changes this decision, Helldivers 2’s availability will be severely limited. Arrowhead, the game’s creator, is directing players outraged by this mess to contact PlayStation Support with any questions or concerns.
