Passenger plane crashes in Kazakhstan 28 people reportedly survived

Subhonkul Rahimov, who survived the plane crash on Christmas Day, tells about the moments before the plane hit the ground in Kazakhstan.

The story in a nutshell

A plane traveling from Azerbaijan to Russia crashed on Christmas Day in Kazakhstan.

At least 38 of the plane’s passengers died.

One of the survivors is Subhonkul Rahimovwho described the creepy moments on the plane to the news agency Reuters.

First, Rahimov says he heard a bang. He looked around and thought that now the plane is going down.

– Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I could make it. I already thought that everything is over, Rahimov describes.

Rahimov started videotaping the events. At the same time he prayed.

– I thought that they were probably my last words, Rahimov justified his decision to pray.

Many people stood up after the first bang. The flight attendants reacted quickly and ordered people back to their seats, Rahimov describes and praises the workers.

The plane did not fall immediately.

– I noticed that we are still in the air. Everyone calmed down and thought that maybe we can land in another place.

The peaceful moment didn’t last long. Soon Rahimov tells his paces in his seat belt in every direction.

The plane hit the ground. Rahimov remained conscious and was surprised to find that he was fine.

– People started crying and came to their senses, Rahimov describes the moment after the plane stopped.

He says that he tried to help the stranded woman, but was unsuccessful. Then he heard the sirens of the ambulance and told the woman that professionals are coming to help, Rahimov says.

The investigation into the plane crash is still open. According to the preliminary investigation by Azerbaijan Airlines, Wednesday’s plane crash was caused by an “external physical and technical malfunction.”

Various official sources have blamed the Russian air defense for the accident.
