The battle for the top of the English Premier League intensified when league leader Manchester City lost to Wolverhampton and Arsenal took a convincing away win against Bournemouth.
Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City suffered their opening defeat of the season when the team lost 1-2 away to Wolverhampton. City kept the ball in their usual style for almost 70 percent of the match, but the team was ineffective.
Wolverhampton took the lead City’s defender By Ruben Dias with own goal. Power forward Julian Alvarez brought City level in the second half, but the Wolves striker Hwang Hee-Chan finished the Final Readings after just over an hour of play. The Korean striker has already managed to score four times this season.
City recorded no less than 23 shots in the match and eight of them on goal. Wolverhampton had only one shot on goal, so the home team bluntly took away the points from the biggest champion favorite.
The London club Arsenal convincingly beat Bournemouth 4–0 away from home, so the team moved just one point behind City in the league table. Liverpool, which is in third place and two points away from the top spot, will play against Tottenham in a match starting at 19:30 Finnish time.
Manchester United’s miserable start to the season continues
Manchester’s other big club United lost for the fourth time this season. The team lost 0–1 to Crystal Palace at home. Palace’s goal was scored with a wonderful half volley by a Danish defender Joachim Andersen.
The London club climbed past ManU in the standings with the win.
In the match, ManU controlled the ball even more than City, a whopping 77 percent of the playing time.
Despite the control, the team shot only four times on goal. The traditional club has lost its last two home games in the Premier League at the legendary Old Trafford and has scored only one goal in total.
ManU, which entered the season with high expectations, finished 10th in the standings. The team spent more than 200 million euros on player acquisitions in the summer, so Erik ten Hag the season of the piloted big club has started disastrously.
The major acquisition of the twenty-time league champion in the summer Rasmus Höjlund has managed to score only once in the six matches he has played in ManU’s shirt. United bought the Danish striker for 75 million euros from Atalanta.
Aston Villa crushed Brighton
Brighton, who started the season well, experienced a dull 1-6 away defeat to Aston Villa at the end of a three-game winning streak. Villa striker Ollie Watkins finished with two goals in the match. The strong home team finished fourth in the series.
Brighton last lost in the Premier League at the end of August.
