If a film deserves the title “flop of the century” then it has to be Catwoman. The 2004 DC blockbuster has been synonymous with creative and commercial miscalculations since its cursed release. Halle Berry didn’t have it easy as a leading actress and figurehead. But she learned her lessons from Catwoman.
Why is Catwoman such a bad flop?
Those are the tough ones flop facts to Catwoman:
Halle Berry’s hearty verdict on Catwoman

Halle Berry himself received the award for the Worst Actress at the controversial anti-Oscars, the Golden Raspberry. She gave a now legendary acceptance speech that was bursting with self-mockery and was harsh on the film. Berry said she wanted to thank the Warner Bros. studio. “Thanks for putting me in a piece of shit, into a hideous movie. It was exactly what my career needed.”
We do not know whether Berry meant the last sentence seriously at the time. But years later, she came back to that thought.
What Halle Berry learned from Catwoman
In 2018, almost a decade and a half after Catwoman, Halle Berry looked back on the failure and drew an interesting conclusion. Everyone around her warned her about the film, she says. “Girl don’t do this, it will be your death, it will end your career.” But Berry didn’t listen to these people, she made her own decision.
I followed my intuition and I made a movie called Catwoman and it flopped badly.
That doesn’t sound so nice at first, but Berry took it three important things from the failure with:
It wasn’t a failure for me because I met so many interesting people. I learned two martial arts and I learned what not to do.
So Berry learned to make her own mistakes and sees great value in that today. And, not to mention, she made money off of Catwoman “a shitload of money that changed my life.”
