A T.rex moves terrifyingly through the rain in the dark. It roars, opening its mouth wide and threatening to devour anything that gets in its way. It’s one of the most stunning and iconic images in Jurassic Park, the film that took blockbuster cinema to a new level more than 25 years ago.
Few directors know how to create such large, groundbreaking images. Steven Spielberg has done it multiple times throughout his career. Last but not least, his first mega hit, Jaws from 1975, is one of the Founder of Blockbuster cinema. He perfected the formula with Jurassic Park.

With Spielberg, the spectacle is deeply rooted in the film
Even in a time when everything seems possible in the cinema, 1993’s Jurassic Park exploits the potential of the big screen better than some contemporary superhero films. The reason for this is simple: For Spielberg, the spectacle is not a matter of course, it is deeply rooted in his film.
Many blockbusters simply present us with bombast without making it comprehensible and noticeable. Spielberg, on the other hand, carefully guides us to the images that amaze us.
