On June 28, 2024, Square Enix released Patch 7.0 for the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV. The accompanying graphics update makes the characters look really good. However, there is now one race that should no longer eat pizza.
Why no more pizza for a people? The emote that lets a player character eat pizza in Final Fantasy XIV is called the same and is actually quite harmless. If you use it, a piece of pizza with toppings appears in your character’s hand. The character bites into it and chews, nodding happily.
However, since the graphics update with 7.0 for the new expansion Dawntrail, one selectable race seems to have lost its appetite for pizza: Male Au Ra still bite into their pizza, but they make grotesque faces while eating.
Here is an example from Reddit:
At the end, they at least give a thumbs up and smile. But apparently the fast food didn’t taste good after all. That’s probably how someone would react if they didn’t want to hurt the chef’s feelings.
There is a graphics update and it rains happy bugs
Are there any other funny bugs? In fact, reports of harmless but entertaining graphic bugs are piling up. Here are a few examples:
None of these problems seem game-breaking at first glance. But of course that can still change. In fact, the developers are already working on several other bugs that actually cause problems.
What does the development team say? The director and producer of the game recently spoke out in a blog post. Naoki Yoshida specifically addressed performance issues with the Xbox version, new bugs in the endgame, and various unwanted graphic changes such as the pizza emote.
Although Dawntrail’s early access has been pretty relaxed so far, it was foreseeable that there would be bugs. What exactly is currently wrong, what the devs are working on and Yoshida’s apology, you can of course read directly here: Final Fantasy XIV: The new expansion is live and the boss is already apologizing for mistakes
