NFTs (for Non-Fungible Token, or non-fungible token in good French) have been at the heart of digital news in recent months, and the entire entertainment industry probably wants to get involved, including especially in the video game, Ubisoft and Square Enix the first. Very controversial, these NFTs are of interest to large companies who see them as a new way to market in-game content, but it seems that creators and other artists also want to get into the market, like a certain Troy Baker, well known in the video game to be one of the most outstanding voices of the landscape (Joel of The Last of Us, Sam Drake in Uncharted 4 to name only these two). The dubbing actor has just announced a partnership with VoiceverseNFT for the marketing of digital voices in NFT.
I’m partnering with @VoiceverseNFT to explore ways in which we could together bring new tools to new creators to do new things, and thus give everyone a chance to own and invest in IP (Intellectual Property) that ‘they create.
On Twitter where he announces this collaboration, the feedback has been mostly negative, probably due to the clumsiness of his last sentence: “We all have a story to tell. You can hate. Or you can create. What will it be?”. Some people criticize the artist for participating in the evolution of blockchains which consume a lot of energy while people are freezing to death in New York. The environmental impact of these blackchains is indeed pointed out, while others are disappointed with the decision of an artist that they will continue to respect, but that they will “unfollow” by principle and ethics. To a user who asks if he is going to create an NFT in his image, Troy Baker replies no, but despite this, part of his community has alienated himself.

Regarding Voiceverse NFT, we learn that the company wants to stand out from other market players who mainly offer jpeg images. By investing in digital voices, company explains that through this it will be possible to create personalized audio books, YouTube videos, conferences, and even podcasts, with your favorite voice! We remind those who have not followed that SFTs are data composed of a cryptographic token which represents a digital object (image, video, audio, etc.), to which a digital identity is attached and which is then valued in the market. Its authentication is validated thanks to the protocol of a chain of blocks (blockchain) which thus gives it its first value, before climbing aside over the course of its existence. It remains to be seen whether Troy Baker will maintain the partnership or withdraw following the ultra-negative feedback…
