For HyperOS, which was first introduced in the Xiaomi 14 series, Xiaomi itself stated the following: “Xiaomi has achieved significant growth over the past 13 years, from just 100 users to 1.175 billion users worldwide and a product portfolio spanning more than 200 categories. In the age of the Internet of Things, Xiaomi has faced the complexity of multiple device operating systems. This experience pushed Xiaomi to make unprecedented innovations and Xiaomi HyperOS emerged.

Xiaomi HyperOS, which has been in development since 2017 and is designed to bring consistency to the IoT environment, unites all ecosystem devices within the framework of a single integrated system. With the new operating system, Xiaomi aims to maximize device performance, make the user experience more consistent and ensure that all Xiaomi devices can be connected smoothly.

The basis of Xiaomi HyperOS is Linux and Xiaomi’s own developed Xiaomi Vela system. Its outstanding compatibility and precise system resource management capabilities ensure that all devices deliver optimal performance. The base layer of Xiaomi HyperOS supports more than 200 processor platforms and more than 20 standard file systems, covering hundreds of device types and thousands of SKUs.

It provides flexible configuration, operation and deployment in accordance with hardware requirements. Memory requirements for compatible devices can vary from as small as 64 KB to as large as 24 GB.

Adhering to the principle of configuring only the necessary resources according to the changing hardware, along with file deduplication and compression of the underlying IO stack, Xiaomi HyperOS takes up very little space. “It takes up only 8.75 GB of space in the system on smartphones, which is a significant improvement compared to its competitors.”
