The “Applied Materials” company has announced new developments for “OLED” display technology. The “MAX OLED” platform is primarily intended to hide long-term improvements for OLED, which should not only make monitors with OLED better and larger, but also significantly cheaper in the long term. The English-language magazine TomsHardware.com reports on this.

In the future, televisions, monitors and cell phones with OLED displays could not only last significantly longer, but also become cheaper. If manufacturers should pass on the cost reductions to customers.

New technology in the OLED sector is intended to make production more efficient and cheaper

What is the most important change? The most important change should be the conversion of OLED production to the next generation.

The new technology should make it possible to produce larger and, above all, cheaper OLED panels. The switch to the next generation should offer a much better yield of the material and thus reduce the costs for a single glass plate. The aim of the improvements is primarily to accommodate consumer electronics: OLED has been in high demand here for several years, and in addition to televisions, it is now also used for cell phones and notebooks.

What other improvements are mentioned? In addition, there should also be further improvements thanks to “MAX OLED”:

  • The screens produced with this system are said to be up to three times brighter, offer 2.5 times higher resolution and have a five times longer lifespan compared to conventional OLED displays. This is currently one of the biggest problems: OLED panels age very quickly.
  • Additionally, these advances are achieved with 30% lower power consumption, making the technology more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
  • By improving material utilization, MAX OLED not only reduces costs, but also minimizes environmental impact.

    • Who will use the technology? Some manufacturers, including Samsung Display, Visionox and Japan Display, already want to use the new system for their OLED production. Samsung in particular is one of the largest and most important manufacturers in the OLED sector. In addition to Samsung, LG and ASUS are currently the leaders.     The MAX OLED solution is receiving strong customer interest, with repeat orders from several leading display manufacturers.
