CASTEX. The former Prime Minister signs his return to public life by joining foundations for the inclusion and development of transport. Jean Castex will also be back at the Court of Auditors from August.
[Mis à jour le 28 juillet 2022 à 15h20] After leaving Matignon, Jean Castex granted himself ten weeks of rest. A break spent at home, in Prades in the Pyrénées-Orientales, to better return to public life, because the former Prime Minister has kept a taste for national politics. If he indicated in May to The independent not wanting to take on the role of mayor again, Jean Castex will be back at the Court of Auditors, his original body and “his house” as he calls it, at from the end of August. According to those around him, the politician will be charged by Pierre Moscovici, First President of the Court of Auditors, with “specific missions”.
Jean Castex is therefore preparing for his return but is already invested with new missions, including those which weigh on the president of the Foundation Act against exclusion (FACE). A position to which he was appointed, free of charge, on Wednesday July 27, 2022. The voluntary activity will bring Jean Castex closer to the new government since no less than five ministers also sit on the board of directors of the foundation which wants to act against all forms of exclusion. Another institution will soon benefit from the services of the former head of government: the French transport infrastructure financing agency (AFITF). On its way, Jean Castex has also found a third activity which will be “punctual” and which comes under the private sector, in the field of ecological transition. For the Idverde company, Jean Castex will be responsible for an “innovative project for the greening of urban spaces”. It is a busy program that awaits the ex-right arm of Emmanuel Macron, far from his Pyrenean land.
Jean Castex returns to the Court of Auditors
This is where Jean Castex studied when he left the ENA and he returns for the start of the 2022 school year: the Court of Auditors. The politician has risen through the ranks of the institution and will be on these benches again from the end of August. The title of his post has not been specified but his experience as a former member and especially as a former Prime Minister should serve him well. Jean Castex joined the Court in 1991 as an auditor and was promoted to master counsel in 2008.
Fight against exclusion and transport, new missions for Jean Castex
The former Prime Minister has never hidden his passion for transport and in particular trains. Is this why on July 7, 2022 Emmanuel Macron proposed the name of Jean Castex to take the presidency of the Agency for the financing of transport infrastructures in France? Who knows. Anyway, the profile of the politician was able to convince the Parliament and on July 27 the appointment of Jean Castex at the head of the AFITF was recorded. From the start of the school year, he will chair the board of directors responsible for financing major national mobility projects and endowed with a budget of 3.66 billion euros for the year 2022.
On July 27, Jean Castex also saw his appointment as president of the Foundation Act against exclusion (FACE) formalized in a communicated. The announcement specifies the ambition of the former head of government to make FACE, an organization created in 1993 by the mayor of Lille, Martine Aubry, “a major player by multiplying the clubs and foundations sheltered in all territories, in order to to provide concrete solutions that are as close as possible to needs”.
