Forest Reigns is a new game from a former Stalker developer on Steam. And you notice that: Not only is it a shooter, the end-time scenario also appears here again. However, different than what was previously known.
What is Forest Reigns? The game comes from developer VG Entertainment and is being developed under the direction of Ruslan Didenko. Among other things, he was involved in Stalker: Call of Pripyat and was already able to gain experience with the post-apocalypse.
That’s exactly where it takes players in Forest Reigns. The survival shooter takes place in a future version of Paris, where, unlike in Stalker, there is no sign of a nuclear catastrophe and its consequences. On the contrary: Nature grows and sprouts, which leads us directly to the highlight of Forest Reigns.
As the name of the game suggests, only nature has the say here. Which means both a blessing and a curse for the players.
Do you have a green thumb?
How does the game work? Paris is almost unrecognizable in Forest Reigns. Plants and mutated trees grow everywhere. They cover houses, streets and lampposts. It quickly becomes clear that nature has reclaimed the city.
In between, enemy soldiers and mutated animals roam through the city. They are your enemies that you can fight with the help of Mother Nature. It should be possible to take advantage of the mutated trees. If you shoot a root, for example, it will grow in seconds and provide cover.
Or you can shoot at flying spores, which then explode and cause a lot of damage to your enemies. These are just two examples, in general the developers want to create an immersive experience in which you always include your surroundings in the fights. The first gameplay shows a video from IGN on YouTube.
But be careful: at the end of the day, your own character is just a small piece of the puzzle in a world in which people have little say. Means: You have to collect resources and adapt to nature. Otherwise, you may become a victim yourself.
Forest Reigns wants to create a scenario that you can benefit from, but that can also pose a great danger to yourself. Nature does not differentiate between friend and enemy.
The influence of Stalker and similar titles is noticeable, but the eco-scenario could have one or two exciting twists in store. There is currently no release date for the game. Another title on Steam takes a similar approach and is extremely ambitious: 100,000 players want the new survival MMORPG on Steam, which is reminiscent of Stalker
