Unbelievable but true: a new film based on JRR Tolkien’s novels is released in theaters this week.
The return of Middle Earth is imminent. After the success of the trilogy Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson in the early 2000s, each work taking place within the universe imagined by JRR Tolkien is an event. Despite more measured and less enthusiastic criticism, The Hobbit And The Rings of Power were still successes that attracted fans of the saga in theaters or on streaming platforms.
And it should not stop there, since the universe of Lord of the Rings returns to the cinema. A film set in the universe of JRR Tolkien is released for the holidays of 2024. The action takes place almost 200 years before the adventures of Frodo, Gandalf, Aragorn and the rest of the Fellowship of the Ring.
Viewers will delve into the story of the King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand, and the legendary battle against the army of Dunlendings that helped shape Middle-earth as we know it. He will notably give his name to the fortress of Helm’s Deep, which we find in the Lord of the Rings.
Small particularity compared to the recent adaptations of Tolkien’s work on the small and big screen: Lord of the Rings : The Rohirrim War is an animated film by Sola Entertainment, which mixed motion capture and 3D techniques, while retaining the heritage of anime culture.
Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, it stars Brian Cox (Succession) in the main role, while Miranda Otto will once again be Éowyn, but only as narrator. A role that she already played in Peter Jackson’s trilogy.
Lord of the Rings : The Rohirrim War therefore further extends the universe of JRR Tolkien on screen. It’s this Wednesday, December 11, 2024, right on time for the holidays, that fans of Middle-earth will once again gather in theaters.
