A new leak has fueled the excitement around the Nintendo Switch 2, with the publication on the Internet of what would be photos of the motherboard of the future console. Information to be taken with caution.
Nintendo’s future hybrid game console, the Switch 2, has been making headlines for at least two years now, and rumors about the machine have multiplied at great speed during the year 2024 (see our article). Shape, size, screen, storage, connectivity and above all graphics power, all aspects of the console are the subject of particular attention, and the slightest scrap of information, official but especially unofficial for the moment, is scrutinized with greed by players and commentators.
And in fact, a Reddit user by the name of MHN1994 has just put a piece back in the machine, by publishing what he presents as being nothing more and nothing less than photographs of the Switch 2 motherboard. On the page in question on the social networkwe therefore discover three images, detailed and close-up, of one of the essential components of the next Nintendo console.
Provided that these photos are authentic, we can therefore draw some clues about some of the hardware characteristics of the future Nintendo console, and get an idea of the overall computing power of the machine. Over the past few months, numerous other information leaks have already offered a glimpse of what Nintendo’s future console could offer, and the present images seem to show components consistent with these conjectures.
Thus, we can see a graphics circuit flocked with the words “NVIDIA S TW 24 SNW8VF”. If this reference does not refer to any known chip from the manufacturer Nvidia, it nevertheless seems to correspond to components of the GeForce RTX 3000 generation, an architecture of graphics cards released between 2020 and 2022. To give you an idea, and taking into account constraints of space, autonomy and cooling of a portable console, this chip could offer the Switch 2 graphics power equivalent to that of a PS4 Pro.
We can also see an SK Hynix RAM module stamped “H58GE6AK8B X107 425A”, which also does not refer to a known reference in the manufacturer’s catalog. According to preliminary conjectures from observers, it would be a 6 GB memory module, and the motherboard would have two, which would bring its total capacity to 12 GB of RAM, bringing the Switch 2 closer to current standards in terms of other consoles, such as the PS5 and the Xbox Series.
Last elements deducible from the photos, the presence of two USB Type-C ports, one located on the lower edge for connecting to the dock, and the other on the upper edge allowing the console to be recharged when placed on a table or flat surface. A memory card reader is also still included, which would further the backward compatibility of the Switch 2 with games from Nintendo’s previous machine.
Obviously, all of this information is conjecture based solely on the photos posted by MHN1994 on Reddit, and should therefore be taken for what they are, i.e. rumors, pending confirmation of the from Nintendo. The wait should not, however, be too long, because the manufacturer has committed to officially unveil its future console before the end of March 2025, for a probable release next spring, that is to say eight years after the arrival of the Switch first of the name.
