Pokémon is one of the biggest brands in the world, and one that most people have come to know in their childhood. To this day, the main games’ graphics and presentation are based on rather light-hearted and light-hearted stories. A new game on Steam wants to be based on Pokémon, but make it much darker and scarier.
What is Voidsayer? Voidsayer is set to be the first game from the indie studio SGO Studios from Poland. The game is set to be a turn-based role-playing game that is primarily based on Pokémon. Instead of the colorful and shallow story, Voidsayer presents a dark twist in the genre.
Visually, the game is reminiscent of titles like Darkest Dungeon. Everything is drawn, but in a dark comic style. This is also what the monsters that you use in battle look like. The designs are based on dark fantasy or cosmic horror, like the Cthulhu Mythos.

What does the game offer? In the short trailer you can see some of the monster designs. A kind of shadow cat fights against a griffin. Things get even darker on the game’s Kickstarter page. As in Pokémon, you can choose a starter from 3 monsters in Voidsayer.
You can choose from a red dragon, a kind of hybrid between a plant and a panther, and a tentacle monster that is, of course, reminiscent of Cthulhu. The game is supposed to contain over 100 monsters and there will also be evolutions like in Pokémon that are not just tied to levels.
The game is not supposed to focus on the story. It’s more about creating an atmosphere. Voidsayer wants to focus mainly on the gameplay. With different events, procedurally generated dungeons and different characteristics for the same monsters, variety is to be offered. The structure of the map shown is reminiscent of Slay the Spire.
Outside the dungeons, there is a city that you can upgrade with resources you find. On the Kickstarter page, you can see an example of a building that gives you more information about your opponents when you upgrade it.
How did the Kickstarter go? The Kickstarter campaign is now over. The game’s target amount was €1,500. The goal was reached quite easily. SGO Studios raised almost €7,000. Players don’t have to wait long either. There is no official release date yet, most of the rewards on Kickstarter say December 2024 is expected for delivery. But this is not an official date.
