a new fine among other measures for medicine

In an interview with local media, Gabriel Attal announced a series of measures aimed at the medical world. Among them, the “rabbit tax” which is scheduled to come into force on January 1, 2025, should make it possible to fight against medical appointments that are not honored.

Prime Minister Gabriel Attal presented, Saturday April 6, during an exchange with local media, the outlines of the “rabbit tax” aimed at sanctioning patients who do not honor their medical appointments, reports Le Figaro. Thus, when an appointment is not canceled at least 24 hours in advance, a penalty of up to five euros will be applied to the patient, regardless of their income. “Whether we have financial difficulties or not, we have the same rights and duties,” insisted Gabriel Attal. If the measure is to come into force from January 1, 2025, the primary objective is above all to raise patient awareness. Indeed, when a person does not show up for an appointment, they take the place of another, and in turn, waste the health professional’s time.

world of health to fight against medical deserts and waiting times that are often too long to obtain an appointment. Thus, the number of places for second-year medical students will gradually increase to 12,000 in 2025 and 16,000 in 2027. In order to reduce the workload of general practitioners, other health professionals such as pharmacists will be able to prescribe medication in the case of certain pathologies. This will particularly be the case for tonsillitis and cystitis from next June. Opticians for their part will be able from this same date to adapt the prescriptions made by ophthalmologists in the event that the prescription is no longer suitable, reports BFMTV.

Attal announced that it was launching an experiment in 13 departments to make their access “direct” without the patient needing to first go through their general practitioner. To allow access to care less than 30 minutes from home for night shifts and weekends, the Prime Minister wishes to grant “financial assistance” for each doctor who agrees to work “temporarily” outside his area. Finally, the executive intends to strengthen its “My psychological support” system. For this, the amount reimbursed for a consultation will increase from 30 to 50 euros, and their number will be increased to 12 sessions per year.
