A new Exo from Season 21 is so ugly that some no longer dare to go into the open world with it

Destiny 2 is all about spectacular gear, breathtaking worlds and epic battles. But with the release of Season 21, Bungie has introduced a new and exotic Warlock that divides the opinions of the Guardians. MeinMMO takes a look at the new “ugly piece” made of driftwood and tells you whether it’s worth looking at.

What Exotics did Destiny 2 add in Season 21: Like every season, the “Season of the Deep” has washed new exotics onto the shores of Destiny 2. One for each class.

So after the first part of the seasonal dive story was done, many curiously rummaged through the collection and saw the following:

  • The new armor exo “Triton’s Vice” has been added to the hunter
  • The Halberd Arm perk increases Glaives’ reload speed and melee damage when surrounded. Additionally, Glaive melee final blows cause a projectile to spill into the magazine. Glaive projectile finishers instead generate explosions when the glaive deals damage equal to your focus.
  • The Titan got a romantic floral armor exotic called “Thorn Guardian”
  • The perk “Barrinate” channels a defensive light when the class ability, i.e. the barricade, is used. It also grants a grenade that also creates a barricade on impact.
  • However, upon seeing the Warlock Exo, many a Guardian wondered, “What the heck is that hideous? Ornament! Immediately!”

The ghastly sight is the new Warlock Exo “Cenotaph Mask” from Season 21.

  • His High Priority perk gradually reloads a portion of an equipped Trace Rifle’s magazine from reserves. Damaging a boss, mini-boss, or vehicle with a trace rifle that matches your subclass will mark it as a priority target. When allies take out the priority target, they gain heavy ammo.
  • Not only that, the Warlocks in Destiny 2 have been wearing “bathrobes” for years. Now they also got an exo that looks like an ugly driftwood aircraft carrier. Some clicked into Eververse and prayed to find an ornament for it – but in vain.

But at least. You don’t have to unpack the brown paper bag for hiding right away, because what the Exo can do doesn’t seem to be bad at all – despite the lousy looks.

Zenotaph Mask – Ugly Nightmare or Hidden Gem?

Look or function – which is better? Warlocks are definitely divided on their new wooden look. In fact, it feels a bit strange to venture into the world of Destiny 2 with this “board on your head”. Cool is somehow different.

That’s why some Guardians don’t get really warm with the “coffee table mask”. Some even see it as an inverted boot of a charnel knight, which is now worn on the head and which is also much too big.

However, the keeper overthisbynow sees this as equalizing justice:

I mean, titans literally get towers for their shoulders. It was only fair that we Warlocks now get starships for our heads.

  • NitroScott77 is already thinking about further functionalities: “Bruh, it’s perfect! Your teammates can stand on your head. There is no better support option than a head platform!”
  • Others, on the other hand, are excited about Bungie’s new, exotic wooden workpiece.

  • Like amazinj2084 commenting on the Bungie Forums, “I like this piece of firewood on my warlock’s head. I’ll only wear it because it’s ugly.”
  • A_Hideous_Beast thinks, “It’s ugly. But I love it for that reason. I like it when Bungie tries something different [wie zuletzt im Raid „Wurzel der Alpträume“ mit den zusätzlichen Armen an der Rüstung] and [auch] that abnormally long helmet.”

Ugly but good: While some players let appearances guide their decisions, others argue that it’s important to recognize the Exo’s added value and utilize its abilities in gameplay.

Some Destiny 2 players have already had surprisingly positive opinions of the visually controversial Exo after initial testing, arguing that while the Exo’s appearance may take some getting used to, it’s still an extremely effective and powerful piece of armor. Something not to be neglected.

The Zenotaph Mask is a perfect exotic for the endgame and ideal for builds with the support Exo “divinity”. It is already considered by some to be one of the future best exotics in the game.

  • It’s basically an “Actium Wargear” for trace rifles that creates heavy ammo for allies and is 100% working really well so far.
  • In addition, the effect can be combined with the Exotic Aeon Armguard if you want maximum heavy ammo.
  • Weapons like the Divinity, Coldheart, or even Ager’s Scepter will play pretty great with it. Basically any exotic tracer rifle.
  • The user Xslaughteredx, on the other hand, has a completely different theory as to why the exotic was designed exactly like this: “[Bungie] just made it ugly so they can later sell you a decent looking ornament for silver.”, alluding to the recent introduction of the ornament for the warlock’s Starfire Protocol exo. It was nerfed at the start of Season 21 and given an ornament at the same time.

The heated debate surrounding the ugly Exo in Destiny 2 also raises an interesting question: Should players judge a piece of gear based on its functionality and benefits, or should it be aesthetic design?

And what do you personally think of the new Warlock Exo? Do you like it? Or are you saying the creative armor designer at Bungie deserved Warlock gripes for this piece?
