A new horror co-op game on Steam is reminiscent of Phasmophobia, but promises a twist that will make your ghost hunting an emotional affair.
What kind of game is this? Remnant Records is a new horror co-op game that was released on Steam on January 23, 2024 and currently has 87% positive reviews.
Visually, the game is reminiscent of Phasmophobia and its gameplay also fits in with the popular horror co-op games such as Devour, Demonologist or Pacify. However, Remnant Records not only promises you a new twist, but also shows in the trailer that it is definitely not for the faint of heart:
Remnant Records turns you into ghost hunters
What awaits you as a ghost hunter? At first glance the game not only looks like Phasmophobia, but the basic idea also sounds pretty similar.
Together with up to three other players, you will be hired as ghost hunters to investigate a “haunted house”. In this case, it’s not just about identifying the ghost, but also about exorcising it.
Your first task will be to understand the spirit, its death and its life. Only then will the exorcism work. You are looking for evidence left behind from the life of the spirit. Diaries, newspapers or other unusual things give you information about the lives of the deceased.
This twist in particular seems to excite many players. Among other things, “Aubs” writes in a review on Steam that Remnant Records humanizes the ghosts because you have to deal intensively with life. This definitely makes ghost hunting a more emotional task.
The character selection in this game also gives you a better opportunity to adapt the character to your individual playing style, which is also well received by the players.
Instead of just choosing between a few character models, you also have to choose one of four roles in the group. For example, you can play a muscleman who can then kick in locked doors or a medium who has a close relationship with the dead.
To further customize the game, you can design your character, set the difficulty level for ghosts and puzzles separately, acquire new knowledge and record your strategies after each mission in order to be able to survive better in the next mission.
In co-op mode, the six different ghosts are said to have special abilities that they don’t show when you play in single player.
