The new action role-playing game “Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn” will be released on July 18th for Steam, PS5 and Xbox Series X. The first player numbers on Steam are catastrophic. This has sparked a storm of joy among some people online who had their eye on the game anyway. The hated “woke factory” Sweet Baby Inc. is said to have been involved in it.
How is it going for Flintlock? Not good at all:
Sweet Baby Inc is blamed for flop
Who is happy about this? The fact that Flintlock failed so badly is particularly pleasing to some people on the Internet who have identified “Sweet Baby Inc.” as the source of all evil. This is a Canadian consulting company that helps gaming developers pay attention to “THE” things when developing games: diversity, equality and inclusion.
For a number of people on the internet, this is “woke madness”. Sweet Baby INC is allegedly ruining games. How exactly they change games so drastically that they become worse cannot be explained. In an article, GameStar took a closer look at Sweet Baby Inc.
In any case, Mark Kern, a developer who likes to lead protests against the gaming industry, is celebrating on Twitter: He has already explained how the main character’s “race sawp” ruined the game. And how the company wasted money unnecessarily to promote diversity.
Sweet Baby Inc. may have left the game, but “Flintlock” never recovered, says Kern (via Twitter).
“Nobody wants to play ugly women”
On “KotakuInAction”, a GamerGate reddit, Flintlock’s problems can also be seen in the terrible “woke agenda”, but they put it more clearly: Nobody wants to play an ugly woman with a flat butt, explains one of the users. They should have made a “hot black chick” like in Resident Evil 5.
The game would propagate a woke agenda.
Then someone asks, if “Go Woke, go Broke” is true, how can you explain that Baldur’s Gate 3, the wokest game ever, is such a huge success and the discussion gets a bit off track. Well, most people would mess around with the conventionally beautiful Shadowheart – that somehow shows it all.
Flintlock simply didn’t have the money for a better game
Why did the game really flop? The reviews on Steam say:
At Metacritic, Flintlock on PS5 and PC only gets 71% – the Xbox version gets 73%:
Flintlock is apparently having a hard time finding a target audience because there are too many strong alternatives in the “action role-playing game” genre. Flintlock lacked any hype at release.
This is what’s behind it: The argument that “games fail when they are woke” is completely invalidated by Baldur’s Gate 3 alone. Most games fail miserably because they are developed without considering the market. Flintlock is simply unlikely to have been on anyone’s radar:
There seem to be some parallels between Flintlock and Forspoken, the action role-playing game also flopped and some accused it of being due to the unloved protagonist, who was perceived as bitchy: Forspoken: Actress gets criticism from gamers that she is “embarrassing” – This is what she says about it
