It was the Argentinian soccer player Gonzalo Montiel who hit the decisive penalty in Sunday’s World Cup final against France. The entire stand erupted in huge cheers, images that were broadcast around the world.
However, there was something that stood out and was noted by several viewers. In the broadcast, a topless woman can be seen in the audience celebrating Argentina’s World Cup gold.
Risking prison
Now the blonde woman may be punished, according to The Sun. In Qatar, nudity is punishable by either a fine or imprisonment. Women have even been advised to wear scarves around their necks to cover their breasts.
“Advise not to wear too tight clothes”
Women are also advised not to wear clothes that are too tight – or to show their shoulders.
“Visitors, both male and female, are expected to show respect for local culture by avoiding excessively revealing clothing in public,” the Qatari tourism authority wrote in a statement ahead of the tournament.
There is currently no information on whether the woman has made it out of Qatar.
