The fight started when an Italian opposition politician tried to hand the Italian flag to the minister.

The session of the Italian Parliament turned violent on Wednesday.

Prime minister by Giorgia Meloni the government introduced a controversial law reform that would strengthen regional self-government. Surprisingly, in the middle of the presentation of the law, the representative of the opposition party Five Star Movement Leonard Donno walked the minister responsible for regional development by Robberto Calderol over and tried to give the minister an Italian flag.

The minister refused to take the flag and backed down. After that, politicians from the governing parties rushed to the scene, cheering for Donno.

According to Donno, he was hit and kicked in the chest so hard that he couldn’t breathe, says Italian newspaper Corriere Della Serra.

The member of parliament was carried out of the parliament in a wheelchair. The MP’s assistant who rushed to the scene to calm down the fight was also beaten.

According to Minister Calderon’s Lega party, Donno started the violence.

However, Donno denies that he himself acted violently. The member of parliament plans to file a complaint against the politicians who attacked him.
