ZEMMOUR. Eric Zemmour had lunch with Nicolas Sarkozy on Tuesday September 6, 2022, as the president of Reconquête prepares for his return to school in a tense internal context.
Withdrawn from the media sphere since his defeat at 1er round of the legislative elections last June, Eric Zemmour, like many politicians, made his comeback. The one who was also an unsuccessful candidate in the presidential election in the spring of 2022 does not want to disappear from the French political landscape, convinced of having opened an alternative way. As a summer school is being prepared in the south-east to launch the upcoming political season of his Reconquest party in a fairly electric context internally, undermined by tensions and a change in statutes, Eric Zemmour spoke with Nicolas Sarkozy, as revealed European 1 this Wednesday, September 7, 2022.
A meeting between Eric Zemmour and Nicolas Sarkozy
The former President of the Republic and the ex-polemicist of CNews had lunch together on Tuesday, September 6, at the request of the former far-right candidate. Several times in recent months, Eric Zemmour has requested an interview with the former head of state, who has always declined the proposal to avoid any turmoil in the middle of the presidential campaign, explains the radio. According to relatives of the two sexagenarians, it was mainly a question of the last race at the Elysee Palace and the feelings of Eric Zemmour who was embarking on the battle for the first time. A lunch a priori simply of convenience, especially as the former journalist was long close to the UMP.
What was Eric Zemmour’s result in the legislative elections?
Candidate in June 2022 for the legislative elections in the 4th district of Var – where he did not reside but where he could have electoral hopes given his local score in the presidential election – Eric Zemmour had been eliminated in the 1st round. The Reconquest candidate came in 3rd position with 23.19% of the vote, behind Sereine Mauborgne, candidate of the presidential majority coalition Together (28.51%) but also Philippe Lottiaux (RN) with 24.74% of the vote. Having failed to gather 12.5% of voters, Eric Zemmour had therefore not qualified for the second round of the legislative elections.
During the campaign for the legislative elections, Eric Zemmour had once again tried to achieve “the union of the rights”, a project that is dear to him. But the National Rally and Les Républicains had opposed him an end of not receiving. To the chagrin of the president of Reconquest! who had nevertheless assured to be “the one who can bring together all the rights and all the right-wing people”, he who advocated the gathering “of the popular classes and a patriotic bourgeoisie.” A leitmotif that would have made him “the only right-wing candidate” according to him, refusing to be equated with the far right. A speech that has not been heard.
