While the filming of The Last of Us TV mini-series is in full swing and the release date is scheduled for 2023 according to the latest rumors, PlayStation Productions is busy launching the Twisted Metal project for a adaptation also on small screen. The size information revealed in recent days is the name of the broadcaster who agreed to support the project and according to
the very knowledgeable Deadline, it is the Peacock platform (which belongs to NBC Universal) which will share the series from Sony Interactive Entertainment. Inevitably, the question arises in other countries where Peacock does not exist, but between now and the start of the shooting of the series and the whole post-production process, we have time to see the thing coming. If the choice to make a TV series around the Twisted Metal franchise raises questions (there hasn’t been a new episode for 10 years and it has never enjoyed great commercial popularity), on the side of PlayStation Productions , we believe in it hard as iron, to the point that it is the actor Anthony Mackie who was hired to play the main character.
Admittedly, he’s not the most bankable actor in Hollywood (and his acting is quite limited on top of that), but his status as the new Captain America could possibly work in his favor. We also know that one of the executive producers of the show is none other than Michael Jonathan Smith, known for his work on the hit series Cobra Kai. At his side, we find Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick who worked on the two films Zombieland and Deadpool and we are promised a vitaminized action comedy, with a scenario that should also do the trick. We will indeed be told the peregrinations of a marginal man (Anthony Mackie therefore) to whom he is promised a better life if he manages to deliver a mysterious package in a desert on a post-apocalyptic backdrop à la Mad Max where crackpots in destruction cars are there to rob people.
