A man steals Pokémon cards worth thousands of euros, but the thief is robbed himself

A 35-year-old man was hoping to make a quick buck by getting a job on Twitter. But the job turned out to be stealing thousands of dollars worth of Pokémon cards.

What is this story? As the Japanese news site Yomiuri reported, a 35-year-old man was arrested by the Tokyo police. He is suspected of stealing around 1,500 Pokémon cards.

According to the report, the suspect broke into a trading card shop around 5 a.m. There he broke open a display case with a tool and stole about 1,500 Pokémon cards worth about 1,150,000 yen, the equivalent of about €7,300.

The curious thing: the man is said to have confessed to having committed the crime on behalf of an unknown Twitter user. In fact, some people are willing to do anything to get their hands on Pokémon cards.

The thief apparently trusted the wrong man

This is how the theft happened: The 35-year-old is said to have applied for a job via the short message service Twitter. Apparently he needed the money to pay off gambling debts.

He is said to have received an order from an unknown man to steal Pokémon cards whose value had skyrocketed.

How did the theft go? The day before the theft, the client is said to have contacted the 35-year-old. He is said to have provided the thief with a rental car, as well as tools and gloves.

After the deed was done, the thief then met his client to hand over the loot and receive his reward. However, the stranger told him that he would be paid at a later date.

As the colleagues from 3D Juegos report, the thief is said to have never received the money. Instead, he was tracked down and arrested by the police, while the mysterious client got away with both the cards and the payment. However, a search should also be made for him.

There have been two more Pokémon card thefts in Tokyo alone this year, as well as other cases in other prefectures. In the USA, too, a thief thought he had the perfect plan, but when he tried to cash in on his loot, he made a crucial mistake.
