A man is sentenced for rape and unlawful deprivation of liberty at Vindeln Folkhögskola

It was in April this year that the incident occurred. The perpetrator and the plaintiff must have lived at the same time and next to each other at Vindeln Folkhögskola.

The forensic psychiatric report shows that the man suffered from a serious mental disorder and is deemed to have acted based on a distorted perception of reality. At the same time, the man is deemed to have known where he was, who the acts were aimed at and that these were largely aimed at sexual satisfaction.

Overall, the man is judged to have had the ability to realize the meaning of the acts and that they were done against the woman’s will, the court states.

Illegal restraint

The man was charged with kidnapping, but was sentenced instead to illegal deprivation of liberty. The district court emphasizes that the man left the school on at least two occasions and that the woman was not physically prevented from moving freely on those occasions. However, the perpetrator has been guilty of using threats and violence to persuade the plaintiff not to leave the rooms she was in.

The man is now sentenced for four counts of rape, unlawful threats, assault and unlawful deprivation of liberty to forensic psychiatric care by the Umeå district court.

The man denies any wrongdoing.
