A person set himself on fire outside the courthouse in New York where the jury in the case against former President Donald Trump has just been selected, a spokesperson for the New York police confirmed.
“I see a completely charred person,” said CNN reporter Laura Coates, who is on the scene outside the courthouse.
Clips of the incident show the man lying on the ground writhing as he was engulfed in flames. At least one person must have been there with a fire extinguisher.
“His condition is not good”
The man’s condition is critical and he is in a burn unit, say the New York police, who also say that the man threw out notes containing conspiracy theories.
– His condition is not good, but so far he is still alive, says police chief Joseph Kennedy during a press conference.
Four police officers were slightly injured, according to Laura Kavanagh of the New York Fire Department.
The incident occurred in a park opposite the court. There, the police have given both Trump supporters and those who are against Trump permission to demonstrate.
