The Svea Court of Appeal mitigates the sentence for a stevedore manager who was sentenced for a workplace accident in the port of Oxelösund where a young man died.

In the district court, the stevedore manager was sentenced to 150 daily fines for work environment violations by causing the death of another. Now the Court of Appeal lowers the number of daily fines to 80, but the court finds that the manager was guilty of gross work environment violations, writes Transportarbetaren.

The Court of Appeal also lowers the port company’s corporate fine from SEK 2 million to SEK 1.5 million.

The accident occurred in March 2018 on board a coal vessel. A man in his 20s entered a low-oxygen space on the boat and lost consciousness. He later died from his injuries.
