Finance, Foreign Affairs, Defence… So many key ministries entrusted to women in the second Trudeau cabinet.

Already, in 2015, Justin Trudeau had used his feminism as a strong electoral message for his campaign. As Prime Minister, he formed the first joint federal government in Canadian history. And when journalists asked him why, he simply replied: “Because it’s 2015!”

Again victorious in the last elections, in the fall of 2021, this liberal confirmed his choice to give pride of place to women by appointing them this time to three key positions. Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, who remained Minister of Finance, was thus joined by Mélanie Joly, former Minister of Economic Development, appointed to Foreign Affairs, and by Anita Anand, former Minister of Public Services and Supply who had distinguished herself during the pandemic to obtain doses of vaccine, assigned to Defense. International Trade, Employment and Workforce Development, Agriculture… Many other ministries are also in the hands of women.
